Cochrane Community Awards Announces 2017 Award Recipients

(COCHRANE: May 28, 2017) — Twenty-eight nominees and thirteen Cochrane Community Award finalists were showcased this weekend at the Spring awards ceremony held on Sunday May 28 at the Cochrane RancheHouse.

Global Calgary Morning News anchor Amber Schinkel, who resides in Cochrane, served as emcee. The afternoon affair featured awards presented to people and organizations who make a difference in our community.

With a backdrop of dramatic mountain views and a room decorated with fresh spring flowers, residents, businesses, school groups, and organizations who had been nominated by the community were recognized.

The ceremony got underway with fanfare when nominees were piped into the room by Susan Flowers of the Cochrane Pipe Band. Members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police attired in red serge and the Cochrane Lions Rodeo Royalty Queen added glamour and elegance to the event.

Selection Process:  The names of award candidates are submitted in writing to the selection committee by members of the community by completing a nomination form outlining why the candidate is worthy of recognition.  All nominees are presented with a nomination certificate.  Final recipients are determined by a selection committee, made up of the organizing committee and volunteers who are final award recipients from previous years.
